Mississippi football recruiting: coaches spread, deny rumors on twitter

Chuck Cook-US PRESSWIRE

Can you tell there are only 16 days left until National Signing Day?

What do we have here?

Why yes, that's Mississippi State receivers coach Tim Brewster, formerly of the University of Minnesota, speculating on the future of Ole Miss assistant coach Chris Kiffin, who is rumored to be taking a job with the Dallas Cowboys. Though coaches constantly spread rumors about each other to recruits, it's highly unusual to comment on something like this in public.

Kiffin quickly responded with a denial and a jab.

How important is coaching stability in recruiting? Important enough for Mississippi athletic director Ross Bjork to jump in and quash the rumor.

It's probably worth noting that Ole Miss is leaving Mississippi State in its proverbial dust along the recruiting trai and has been doing so since coach Hugh Freeze took over, even though Dan Mullen's State program has been pretty good during his tenure in Starkville.
