Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer just couldn't wait to see 2013 DeSoto running back Dontre Wilson, the Oregon commit who is going to take visits despite remaining pledged to the Ducks after Chip Kelly's departure to the NFL:
Wilson will take an official visit to Ohio State this weekend, but Meyer clearly wanted to emphasize to Wilson how important he is to late Buckeye recruiting efforts. Offensive coordinator Tom Herman had already gone by DeSoto to see Wilson late last week.
Known as a brilliant recruiter, Meyer may be making one big misstep with Wilson -- recruiting him as a slot receiver. That's where the need is for Ohio State, which already has Ezekiel Elliott committed as a difference-making all-purpose back, but a big part of the reason Wilson originally committed to Oregon was because of the success of smaller running backs and the opportunity to stay in that role in college.
In many ways, the Buckeyes are the frontrunner for Wilson until something happens on the head coaching front at Oregon, but Meyer will have to successfully sell Wilson on changing positions in college.
If he can't, Ohio State fans craving the speed and playmaking ability of Wilson may be left wondering if Meyer made the right call in telling Wilson he's going to be a slot receiver.
