Class of 2014 running back Shai McKenzie committed to Virginia Tech Friday afternoon, giving the Hokies their 26th commitment for the current recruiting cycle.
McKenzie, out of Washington (Pa.) High School, stands 5'11 and weighs in at 210 pounds, and he runs a reported 4.58-second 40-yard dash. He's listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports composite ratings, Rivals and Scout, and a three-star by ESPN. He ranks as the No. 13 running back in the class, per 247 composite, and the No. 5 player from the state of Pennsylvania.
In addition to the Hokies, McKenzie has 24 other scholarship offers from across the country. He chose VT over Pittsburgh, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Arkansas, Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee, South Carolina and Wisconsin, among others. The Hokies made their offer on March 19.
McKenzie suffered a torn ACL on Sept. 13, causing him to miss the majority of his senior year at Washington. As a junior, he put up eye-popping numbers, rushing for more than 2,700 yards and 42 touchdowns, and he was a Pennsylvania Class AA All-State selection in track and field.
