Edwin Freeman narrows list to Texas and Texas A&M

The four-star defender will not take out-of-state visits as tentatively planned.

Throughout much of the recruiting process, the Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies have jockeyed for position with Arlington (Texas) Bowie safety/outside linebacker Edwin Freeman, with each team leading at various points.

The 6'1, 215-pound hybrid defender has now narrowed his list to those two schools, according to 247Sports, with visits planned to each over the next two weeks. First up is Texas A&M, which will host Freeman this weekend, then Texas the next weekend. Freeman's timeline lists the Austin visit for the 14th, the day after the team banquet, which would seem like a possibility as well.

In September, Freeman also listed the Oklahoma Sooners and TCU Horned Frogs in his top four, but has now dropped those schools, as well as plans to take out-of-state visits to see the LSU Tigers and Ohio State Buckeyes. The Bowie product had originally wanted to visit the Tigers during the summer, but those plans fell through and he will no longer make it to Baton Rouge.

As for one of the deciding factors in his recruitment, the Longhorns are still recruiting Freeman as a safety even though he's played linebacker each of the last two season and projects there in college as he continues to add mass to his frame. The Aggies, meanwhile, are recruiting him as a pure linebacker.

If that was going to be the only deciding factor, Freeman probably wouldn't have ended his recruitment already and the Crystal Ball predictions don't provide any more perspective, as the projections are evenly split between the Longhorns and Aggies -- it's possible that the final two visits will have to create the separation for the four-star defender.

The last prediction? A switch from Texas A&M to Texas on November 11 by 247Sports national recruiting director JC Shurburtt.

It's also worth noting that Texas was the childhood favorite for the nation's No. 10 outside linebacker in the 247Sports Composite rankings.
