As expected, the Florida State Seminoles landed five-star cornerback Jalen Ramsey, securing the longtime USC commitment over the Trojans and Florida Gators.
Cornerback Jalen Ramsey out of Brentwood Academy near Nashville, Tenn. has canceled his commitment to the USC Trojans after taking a late visit to Florida State. Ramsey was recruited by Tee Martin, and he initially pledged his allegiance to the Trojans back in July of 2012. He still took official visits in the last month leading up to signing day.
Ramsey had been a tenuous commitment to the Trojans -- at best -- for months, and was heavily considering the Florida Gators and the Florida State Seminoles as well. Florida State's coaching staff had been told that Ramsey will sign with the Seminoles.
It was a tough battle for the cornerback recruit from Brentwood, Tennessee, who had been committed to USC for months.
Ramsey stands 6'1 and weighs 190 pounds. He is an excellent athlete and will contend for playing time immediately in the Florida State secondary, as well as on special teams.
Ramsey is rated five stars by Scout and Rivals, and four stars by ESPN. Each service has him among the top-four cornerbacks in the 2013 class. He also ranks highly overall as a consensus top-20 prospect.
With a reported 4.54 40 and a 40-inch vertical jump, Ramsey has the athleticism to be a great cover corner. In addition to his physical attributes, he also has great ball skills, is a hard hitter, and could be a playmaker for the Trojans. He uses solid tackling form and looks to have been well-coached. Definitely a player that could step in and contribute right away for Florida State
