Tahaan Goodman signs with UCLA: Imposing safety highlights Bruin secondary class

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

Safety Tahaan Goodman signs with the UCLA Bruins, who have assembled perhaps the best secondary class in the country.

Tahaan Goodman committed to the UCLA Bruins a few weeks before signing day and faxed in his national letter of intent today. Goodman is a top-notch safety who has all the potential to contribute early. He figures to help the secondary problems the Bruins have struggled with the past several seasons.

Here is the story of Goodman's commitment to UCLA via Bruins Nation. Goodman committed on the same day as his good friend Priest Willis, who will be joining him in Westwood.

The major recruiting analysts love Tahaan's potential. Rivals.com rates him as the best player to commit to the Bruins in this class to date; the 4th best prospect in California, and the #80 prospect nationwide. Scout.com ranks him as the #7 Safety in this year's class, and the 63rd best prospect nationwide.

Derrell Warren of SB Nation wrote up a scouting report on Goodman this summer, mainly focusing on his physicality and his potential. Goodman is a hard-hitting player that tends to embrace contact and go after the football.

Goodman is a plus-level athlete at the position and smoothly navigates across the field with deft footwork. Goodman best profiles as an in-the-box style of safety as he is at his best in run support. He is a defender who takes nice, efficient angles to the ball-carrier that enable him to cut off perimeter runs with room to spare. Goodman is a menacing striker who generates a ton of pop from his powerful frame.

Goodman joins his good buddy Willis and Tyler Foreman as the best trio of safeties committed to any school in the 2013 recruiting class.

Ratings: Goodman stands a tall 6'3 and weighs 195 pounds.

Vitals: Goodman is a consensus four-star, top-ten safety in the 2013 recruiting class.

Other Offers: Most of the Pac-12, and Florida, Florida State, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas A&M.

Recruitment timeline: Goodman has had a pretty fun recruitment. He attended junior day at UCLA early on, along with Arizona State's. He then took numerous unofficial trips to UCLA before his official visit to the Bruins for the USC/UCLA game. Goodman also took official visits to Oklahoma and LSU, but eventually picked UCLA.
