Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel spoke with the top quarterback recruits in Texas at the recent Elite 11 QB Camp in Dallas. Here are some select quotes.
"When the first rivals and all these rankings and that stuff came out, I wasn't ranked," Manziel said. "I wasn't in the top-100 in the state. I was a two to three-star guy, and nobody really gave me much of a chance. And to be here today, it's been a crazy journey."
Two years after not being highly ranked, Manziel quarterbacked Texas A&M to a dream season in its first year in the SEC, beat the National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide, and won the Heisman Trophy.
"The biggest thing for me, is nobody is ever going to beat me. It doesn't matter who you are, it doesn't matter who we play, whatever. Nobody is ever gonna come up. We lose games, whatever, doesn't matter. You have to have that mindset that you're the best regardless. Nobody here is going to stop you. You're the best one here. That's all that matters."
On how he stays grounded:
For me it's been a long road. It's been crazy how my life has changed to where it is now. Coming from somebody that was nobody, to the Heisman, you gotta love the game.
On what Manziel goes to:
You gotta have energy. Look at what switchblade does. Every time we get a drive, can't wait to get on the field. You run on, you pump everybody up, you love it. It's what you do. It's the greatest game, and we're so blessed to be able to play it.
