Damien Mama figures to have a pretty hot summer recruiting session. The Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco High offensive lineman figures to be quite an intimidating force for any defender to deal with on the inside. Mama is a massive human being, standing tall at 6'5 and weighing in at 340 pounds. Mama's video highlights can be found on Hudl.
Mama is ranked 110th overall by 247Sports, which also places him ninth among offensive guards and 14th among California recruits. Mama is the 227th best prospect according to Rivals and eighth among all offensive guards. Mama is 68th among the ESPN 150 and is considered the third best offensive guard and sixth best California recruit, standing out for his run blocking and overall strength. Scout ranks him the 12th best offensive tackle overall.
As of the end of April, Mama currently holds over 20 offers from national powerhouses like Notre Dame, USC, Alabama, Florida State, Oklahoma, Wisconsin and 10 of 12 Pac-12 schools.

Derrell Warren, National Recruiting Analyst (@yssd | PacificCoastRecruits.com): A powerful blocker, Mama would fit best in a gap blocking scheme. He gets to the second level very well for a man his of size. He is the type of recruit that should be in line for early playing time with the necessary re-shaping.
Mama carries a nasty disposition and this is evident in the manner in which he finishes blocks. He relishes contact. He's not content with walling off or controlling a defender. His intent is dominating physically. This trait is indicative of the type of motor with which he is equipped. Motor and overall effort level can be a concern at times in regards to lineman recruits who've become accustomed to overpowering opponents with sheer size.
Currently playing right tackle for his high school team, Mama would fit best operating in a phone booth. And though he has good overall mobility for someone of his girth, he would likely carry more upside using his movement skills in a more confined area.
In pass protection Mama has a tendency to hurry into his set. This is seemingly in an attempt to get out into space quickly enough to combat speed rushers. At times though he lurches back in his kick slide and compromises his balance. He gets by with this due to his raw power -- and how quickly his shoots his hands away from his frame -- but will have to make adjustments by the time he faces bigger, longer, defensive linemen -- especially bull rushers and those who can keep their frames clean long enough to execute a counter-move.
Mama is an exceptional offensive line recruit who should be an early contributor to whatever program to which he pledges his services.
