Texas Longhorns head coach Mack Brown says he is not ready to retire and that he still has booster support.
Texas Longhorns head coach Mack Brown said Thursday that he has no plans to retire despite his Longhorns falling 63-21 to the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry last week.
Some Texas analysts are calling for the end of Brown's tenure straight up, claiming it's not a sudden knee-jerk reaction. The state of the program has been stagnant the past few seasons with Brown accumulating just a 17-14 record over the last three years. Many have said it epitomizes an "it is what it is" mentality in the locker room, which has drawn their criticism.
Brown said that he still believes the Longhorns (4-2) can turn it around to win 10 games this year. The 61-year-old is under contract until 2020 and earns an annual salary of more than $5 million.
The loss perhaps represents a final breaking point for a growing movement among Texas fans wanting to replace Brown as head coach. He is now 5-9 against Bob Stoops' Sooners, and three of those losses rank among the worst to Oklahoma in the history of the rivalry.
