The Ragin' Cajuns are slight favorites to beat the Mean Green in Sun Belt Conference play on Tuesday.
With only one loss for the season via Oklahoma State, the UL Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns are tied at the top of the Sun Belt Conference standings and can become the sole team in first place with a win over the North Texas Mean Green.
North Texas has a pair of wins in 2012, but two of its four losses came against Kansas State and LSU, each ranked in the top 10 of every major poll. However, a 14-7 loss to Troy and a bad, 44-21 loss to Houston in their most recent game has the Mean Green toward the bottom of the Sun Belt standings.
With a win, though, North Texas can put itself back in conference contention and keep its bowl hopes alive. To do so, it will need a strong performance by junior quarterback Derek Thompson.
Thompson has completed more than 50 percent of his passes in just three of six games for North Texas, but has shown glimpses of his capabilities, most notably with a 25-for-28 passing performance against Kansas State in which he tallied 208 yards through the air with a touchdown and no interceptions.
For a similar performance on Tuesday, Thompson will have to avoid throwing interceptions to Rodney Gillis and Jemarlous Moten of UL Lafayette. The pair has combined for five interceptions through five games.
Game time, TV channel: 9 p.m. ET Tuesday, ESPN2
Point spread: UL Lafayette favored by 4 points
