Houston has beaten SMU the last six years and is favored to do it again. How do the two teams stack up?
Houston looks to run its winning streak over SMU to seven Thursday night when it travels to Dallas to take on the Mustangs. The Cougars (3-3, 2-0 CUSA) have won three straight and are coming off a 39-17 victory over UAB. The Mustangs (2-4, 1-1 CUSA), meanwhile, are hoping to bounce back from a one-point loss to Tulane. The Green Wave scored the game-winning touchdown in that outing with less than a minute remaining. In doing so, they snapped a 15-game losing streak of their own.
Houston beat SMU 37-7 last year, racking up 513 yards in the process. The Cougars' high-powered offense has continued to flourish this season. Houston is sixth in the nation in passing yardage with 350 passing yards per game.
SMU last beat Houston 29-24 in 2005 and will need to improve its offensive performance if it hopes to upset the Cougars. The Mustangs have been outgained on average 409 to 368 YPG this season. Making matters worse, quarterback Garrett Gilbert has thrown 11 interceptions.
Game time, TV channel: Thursday, Oct. 18, 8 p.m. ET, Fox Sports Network
