South Carolina tackle Kelcy Quarles's punch of LSU's P.J. Lonergan nets him a one-game suspension.
South Carolina Gamecocks defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles has been suspended by South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier for one game — the Gamecocks' key game against the Florida Gators — for punching a LSU Tigers offensive lineman in South Carolina's loss last weekend.
Quarles will miss the game, according to ESPN's Brett McMurphy, and will be replaced by sophomore J.T. Surratt, who has seven tackles on the year. In limited action, Surratt also has recorded two tackles for a loss on the year.
Quarles's absence could be a big factor in the game, as Quarles had compiled 30 tackles, six for a loss, on the year. Quarles had also accounted for six tackles for a loss.
A fight with LSU's P.J. Lonergan on the first series Quarles saw in last weekend's game was when the punch was thrown. Quarles, a sophomore, has shined brightly for the Gamecocks in his first year of full action.
