Sammy Watkins is likely to return to the Clemson lineup in time for their game against Georgia Tech on Saturday, as the receiver returned to practice Monday after not travelling with the team to Boston College due to an abdominal virus diagnosed last Thursday.
The timing of Watkins' absence hurt a sluggish Tigers team still recovering from a huge loss at Florida State the week before, and Clemson trailed Boston College as late as the third quarter on Saturday before pulling away 45-31 thanks to back-to-back touchdown passes from Tajh Boyd.
Watkins' absence marks the third game the dynamic receiver has missed in 2012 – he sat out the Tigers' first two games of the season as part of a suspension from an offseason drug arrest. In just two games this season Watkins has 76 yards on 10 catches and one touchdown. He led the nation in reception yards per game, all-purpose yards and touchdowns for freshmen in 2011.
