FIU vs. Troy update: QB Deon Anthony leads Trojans to 38-37 victory

Robert Mayer-US PRESSWIRE

Troy QB Deon Anthony had a hand in all five of his team's touchdowns in the Trojans 38-37 victory over Florida International Saturday.

Florida International lost their seventh game of the season in heartbreaking fashion Saturday afternoon, falling to Troy 38-37 thanks to a Will Scott game-winning field goal with 11 seconds left.

Things were looking good for the Panthers early with a 24-14 halftime lead. But the Trojans scored 24 points on FIU the second with quarterback Deon Anthony accounting for all three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing).

By the time the fourth quarter came around, almost nothing was working for the Panthers, who gained only one yard of offense before their final desperation drive. But by then, it was clear this one had already slipped out of FIU's fingers and the Trojans walked away with their fourth victory of 2012.

Box Score Hero: Anthony had himself a day with three touchdowns and one thrown interception as part of his 245 passing yards. Anthony also was the team's leading rusher with 115 yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns on the ground.

But Did They Cover? Troy was considered seven-point favorites by most so they were not able to cover.

Next Week's Schedule: The Panthers will continue their desperate search for victories as they head back home to take on Western Kentucky. As for the Trojans, they'll be heading south to take on Florida Atlantic.
