The Arkansas offensive coordinator will take over the miserable Idaho program next season

The Idaho Vandals have elected to change the leadership of their football program following a rough 1-7 start. On Sunday, Idaho announced head coach Robb Akey was relieved of his duties. To fill his spot, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jason Gesser has been named the interim coach.
"The President (Duane Nellis) and I believe it is important to make this move now so we can immediately begin the process of hiring a new coach for the 2013 season," Director of Athletics Rob Spear said Sunday. "We appreciate Coach Akey's enthusiasm and dedication to the University of Idaho but this is the right move at this time."
The Vandals lost on Saturday to Louisiana Tech 70-28, and there were rumors throughout the weekend that a change could be coming. Following a season where his team went 2-10, Akey likely knew a change was possible, if not probable.
Coach Gesser's first game will be played in two weeks against the San Jose St. Spartans.
