Nevada vs. Air Force 2012 final score: Falcons win, 48-31

The Air Force Falcons defeated the Nevada Wolf Pack, 48-31, to take over second place in the Mountain West Conference.

The Air Force Falcons knocked off the Nevada Wolf Pack, 48-31, to win their third straight game and take over second place in the Mountain West Conference.

Air Force rode a strong rushing performance to the win and finished with 461 rushing yards in the game. The Falcons entered the game averaging 352.7 rushing yards per game -- the second most in the country among FBS teams -- but were even better Friday.

Six different Falcons ran for at least 45 yards with Wes Cobb leading the way with 152 rushing yards. Air Force got on the scoreboard first with a field goal, then took the lead for good late in the first quarter. The Falcons scored 21 points in the second quarter to take a 31-21 hafltime lead.

The Wolf Pack cut made it a one possession game twice in the second half, but both times, Air Force answered with a score of their own to extend the lead. Nevada made it a 38-31 game early in the fourth quarter, but the Falcons scored 10 unanswered points to win 48-31.

Nevada came into the game averaging 272 rushing yards per game, but were unable to reach that number against Air Force and finished with 169 rushing yards. After starting the season 6-1, Nevada has now lost two straight games.

With the win, Air Force moved to 5-3 on the season and 4-1 in the Mountain West Conference. They are currently second in the conference behind 3-0 Boise State and ahead of two 3-1 teams.

Box Score Hero: Cobb led a potent Air Force rushing attack, finishing with 152 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Rankings Ramifications: Neither team entered the week in the rankings picture, and that isn't likely to change following Friday's result.

But Did They Cover? Nevada opened as a 2-1/2-point favorite, a number they failed to cover with the loss.
