John L. Smith announced Brandon Mitchell will not play Saturday against Ole Miss due to a violation of team rules.

Arkansas suspended wide receiver Brandon Mitchell for the Razorbacks' Week 9 matchup against Ole Miss. Head coach John L. Smith released a statement Saturday morning saying that Mitchell would not play due to a violation of team rules.

Mitchell, who converted from quarterback to wideout, is third on the team with 15 catches and second with 257 yards receiving this season. With Tyler Wilson out in September, he got some snaps under center in the blowout loss to Alabama, but he's stayed on the outside as a receiver for most of the season.

After a disastrous start to the year, the Razorbacks enter Saturday's game against the Rebels off a bye week and going for their third straight SEC win. Arkansas is favored by six points at home, but losing Mitchell could impact an offense that was humming under Wilson during their past two games.

In their first season under Hugh Freeze, the Ole Miss offense has put up points at an impressive pace, so Wilson and the Hogs could be in for a shootout without a key receiver. Kickoff is set for 12:21 ET in Little Rock.
