Arkansas State defeated the Florida International Golden Panthers Thursday night, handing FIU its fourth consecutive loss.
The Arkansas State Red Wolves (3-3) handed the Florida International Golden Panthers (1-5) their fourth loss in a row Thursday night after winning, 34-20.
Florida International took the lead first in the opening quarter with a 28-yard field goal by Jack Griffin. But the Red Wolves rallied in the second quarter, as the teams traded touchdowns into halftime, with Arkansas State ahead, 14-10.
Arkansas State quarterback Ryan Aplin hit J.D. McKissic down the middle of the field for a 74-yard touchdown play. Seven minutes later, FIU responded with E.J. Hilliard passing to Jacob Younger to the right side of the field for a 19-yard score, the Golden Panthers' first touchdown of the game. A David Oku 1-yard touchdown run capped Arkansas State's scoring run in the second quarter.
FIU was quiet in the third quarter, while the Red Wolves extended their lead with red-zone rushing touchdowns by Aplin and Oku. The Golden Panthers managed just a field goal in the third.
The teams traded touchdowns again in the fourth quarter, but Arkansas State had already established control of the game.

But Did They Cover? Arkansas State was just a 2-point favorite coming in, but blew the lid off the spread with a two-touchdown victory.
