An undefeated start to 2012 has Mississippi State thinking big, but they'll have to survive a road test against Kentucky.
Off to an undefeated start, the 4-0 Mississippi State Bulldogs return to the field after a two-week hiatus to take on the Kentucky Wildcats in an SEC showdown on Saturday in Lexington, Ky.
Having started their season strong, the Bulldogs will get a road test against the 1-4 Wildcats. In their last game, on Sept. 22, the Bulldogs bested an FCS team, the South Alabama Jaguars, 30-10, on the strength of running back LaDarius Perkins' 69 yards and one score.
Bulldogs quarterback Tyler Russell, though somewhat ineffective against South Alabama, has thrown for eight touchdowns on the year.
Kentucky has not fared well early in 2012 against three ranked opponents, falling to the Louisville Cardinals, Florida Gators and South Carolina Gamecocks. The Wildcats' one victory came against the Kent State Golden Flashes. Wildcat quarterback Maxwell Smith led Kentucky with 354 yards and four touchdowns in the convincing showing.
Smith was injured in Kentucky's first series against South Carolina last weekend, and was replaced by freshman Jalen Whitlow.
Game time, TV channel: Saturday, Oct. 6, 12:21 p.m. ET on the SEC Network
Point spread: Mississippi State is favored by 10 on the road
