West Virginia's offense vs. Texas' defense could be the day's best matchup as the Mountaineers make their Big 12 road debut.
Two of the top offenses in the nation collide in Austin, Texas, Saturday as the West Virginia Mountaineers take on the Texas Longhorns in a Big 12 matchup.
West Virginia is coming off of an absurd 70-63 victory over the Baylor Bears last Saturday. The game set the record for the most points scored involving a team ranked in the AP poll. West Virginia set a school record with 807 yards of total offense. Quarterback Geno Smith threw for 656 yards and eight touchdowns.
Everyone knows the Mountaineers can score, but so can the Longhorns. Texas is ranked ninth overall in the nation at 47.3 points per game and almost has a defense to match. The Longhorns hold opponents to 21 points per game, good for 41st in the nation. Sophomore quarterback David Ash has been absolutely fantastic, completing 85 of his 109 attempts for 1,007 yards passing and 10 touchdowns.
As The Smoking Musket cheekily points out, the Mountaineers are undefeated against the Longhorns over the course of history. That course of history only includes one game, a 7-6 win way back on Oct. 6, 1956.
Game time, TV channel: 7 p.m. ET, FOX
Point spread: Texas is favored by 7-points.
