Let us consider Penn State quarterback Matt McGloin, who was not very good last year. He was not popular. So far this year, he's put together a 136.6 quarterback rating and improved in just about every category, playing decent-to-good in every game so far.
And he's got the Nittany Lions on the verge of taking down Northwestern, which entered the day ranked and near bowl eligibility. Four wins in a row for the program hit harder by the NCAA than any other ever. It's still going to get darker before the very, very distant dawn, but it's still a neat little afternoon in State College.
McGloin, on the day, is 35 of 51 for 282 yards, two touchdowns through the air and the go-ahead score in the fourth, which he chased with a little Aaron Rodgers (despite looking like the most awkward touchdown-scorer of all time):
