Iowa football: Micah Hyde still starting after arrest?

Stay connected with SB Nation

After his arrest on alcohol-related charges Saturday night, Iowa Hawkeyes cornerback Micah Hyde is still being listed as a starter on the team's depth chart, as Randy Peterson of Hawk Central writes. Iowa was off on Saturday in anticipation of playing seven games in seven weeks through the remainder of the season.

Hyde may not necessarily be suspended, despite his arrest for interference with official acts and public intoxication, according to associate athletic director Fred Mims. For Category II Misconduct, coach Kirk Ferentz can administer several different punishments, with a suspension being just one of his options.

Considering that Hyde was announced as a starter by Iowa on Monday, it appears that the team will be taking an alternative route to dealing with the situation in favor of a suspension. The senior is one of the team's key players, having recorded 33 tackles in the Hawkeyes' first five games of the season.
