Jordan Rogers threw two touchdowns in the second half to lead Vanderbilt to a 27-26 win over Ole Miss on Saturday.
Ole Miss opened the third quarter with a 9-play, 56-yard drive that concluded with a 1-yard touchdown run by Bo Wallace to extend the Rebels lead to 23-6, the largest deficit of the game for Vanderbilt.
The Commodores answered when Jordan Rodgers connected with Jordan Matthews on a 52-yard touchdown pass to cut the Rebels lead to 23-13 with 9:52 remaining in the third quarter. Vanderbilt then cut the Ole Miss advantage to 23-20 later in the third after a Wesley Tate 2-yard touchdown run with 2:33 left in the quarter.
Down 26-20 late in the fourth quarter, Rodgers connected with Chris Boyd for a 26-yard touchdown to complete the comeback and put the Commodores ahead 27-26 with 52 seconds remaining in the game. The one-point lead was Vanderbilt`s first and only lead of the game.
With the win, for the first time ever, Vanderbilt is bowl eligible for the second consecutive year.
Box Score Hero: Vanderbilt quarterback Jordan Rodgers was 20-of-35 passing for 267 yards and two touchdowns.
Rankings Ramifications: Neither team was ranked heading into this game and it is unlikely that either will be ranked after it.
But Did They Cover? Ole Miss was favored by 2.5 points and did not cover the spread.
Next Week's Schedule: Vanderbilt plays Tennessee at home while Ole Miss travels to play LSU on the road.
