Tommy Tuberville apologizes for smacking assistant; Big 12 investigating

Kevin Jairaj-US PRESSWIRE

Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville apologized publicly for his actions in a game against Kansas.

After clearly striking the head of special teams coach Kevin Oliver during Saturday's game with Kansas, Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville publicly apologized on Monday at his weekly press conference, via Aaron Dickens of Red Raider Sports.

Tuberville claimed that he too was bothered by the way the situation ended, but pointed out that he apologized to Oliver. While the veteran coach continues to draw criticism for the way he handled himself in a frantic moment, Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby is actively "engaged" in discussions about how to best handle Tuberville's incident.

Bowlsby is expected to review the coach's Monday press conference before going forward with any type of disciplinary action.
