The Oregon St. Beavers have been battling inconsistencies and injuries at the quarterback position for most of the season. As the Beavers continuing preparing for the California Golden Bears, coach Mike Riley announced Sean Mannion would be his starter on Saturday. Cliff Kirkpatrick of the Corvallis Gazette-Times reported the news over Twitter.
Mannion began the season as the starter and led OSU to a perfect record and a high ranking in the polls. He underwent knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus, which opened the door for junior Cody Vaz. Vaz was impressive in two starts, but then lost his job to Mannion once he recovered from surgery.
Mannion returned and did not play well out of the gate. The Beavers have lost two of their past three games, and Vaz made the start against Stanford last weekend. Coach Riley has now decided to give Mannion another shot as Oregon State fights for a high bowl bid and the Pac-12 North crown.
OSU will kickoff against California at 10:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
