The Florida Gators (9-1, 7-1) almost suffered one of the most embarrassing losses of the 2012 season last Saturday when they were taken to the wire by the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns. Florida pulled that game out thanks to a blocked punt that they returned for a touchdown with 2 seconds remaining in the game, but it was not an encouraging outing from a team that had struggled a week earlier to defeat the middling Missouri Tigers.
Part of Florida's struggles against the Cajuns stemmed from an injury to starting quarterback Jeff Driskel, who will be out again on Saturday vs. the Jacksonville St. Gamecocks. In his stead will be Jacoby Brissett, who entered the season in a neck-and-neck tie with Driskel for the starting job before losing out and becoming a permanent fixture on the bench.
In last Saturday's game, Brissett went 6-8 for 64 yards and a touchdown after reliving the injured Driskel, but the Gators hope that it won't take a monster game from their backup QB to avoid another near-upset.
