The South Carolina Gamecocks, weary from a full SEC schedule, hope for a quick and painless Senior Day victory Saturday against Wofford.
South Carolina wrapped up their SEC schedule last week with a 38-20 win over Arkansas, their first game since losing star halfback Marcus Lattimore to injury. The Gamecocks, who had focused on the run game with Lattimore, have suddenly become a pass-first team in his absence. Quarterback Connor Shaw finished with 356 yards passing against Tennessee - the game in which Lattimore sustained his injury - and added 272 yards and two touchdowns against the Razorbacks. No matter where head coach Steve Spurrier finds offense, the Gamecocks will be built on their stellar defense, led by sophomore defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. A win this week would tie Spurrier with Rex Enright (1938-42, 1946-55) for the most career wins by a South Carolina head coach. With its annual game against Clemson next week, South Carolina will try to get healthy and rested.
Wofford is 8-2 in FCS football this year. The Terriers have played back-to-back overtime games, losing 24-17 at Samford on November 3 and beating Chattanooga 16-13 last week. Halfback Eric Breitenstein has run for 1,535 yards and 15 touchdowns on the year. The Terriers' passing game is virtually nonexistent, as Wofford quarterbacks have attempted just 72 passes in ten games this season, averaging just 50.3 yards per game through the air.
