With the harsh SEC schedule behind them, the Georgia Bulldogs host FCS school Georgia Southern at Sanford Stadium on Saturday with the simple goal of improvement in mind. Mark Richt's team has a ticket to the SEC Championship game in hand, and there's even a long shot of a national championship bid on the horizon.
But facing the Eagles is of highest priority. The Southern Conference school from Statesboro, Ga., is ranked sixth in the FCS and has rolled to an 8-2 record behind a triple-option attack that's first in the FCS in rushing yards per game. Georgia Southern has only passed the ball 65 times the entire season, and quarterback Jerick McKinnon and fullback Dominique Swope lead a team that averages upward of 400 yards rushing per game.
The Bulldogs want to continue their efficient offense that had struggled in a 17-9 win at Florida on Oct. 27. Quarterback Aaron Murray threw three picks in that outing, but it's been smooth sailing in two games since. Georgia will continue the attack with running backs Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall setting up play action for Murray.
Last week in a 38-0 drubbing of Auburn, the Bulldogs had 25 passing attempts and ran the ball 42 times.
