Spruce Derden-US PRESSWIRE
Mississippi State forced five Arkansas turnovers and totaled over 500 yards of offense in a 45-14 victory.
Behind four second-half touchdowns Saturday the Mississippi St. Bulldogs routed the visiting Arkansas Razorbacks, 45-14, in a SEC football game at Davis Wade Stadium. The victory helped the Bulldogs improve their record to 8-3 overall and 4-3 in the SEC. The Razorbacks fell to 4-7 overall and 2-5 in the SEC.
Junior quarterback Tyler Russell finished 19-for-32 for 274 yards and four touchdowns, two coming in the second half where Mississippi State outscored Arkansas, 28-0.
The Razorback collected an early 14-7 lead after quarterback Tyler Wilson completed a 7-yard touchdown pass to Dennis Johnson, who ended a 10-play, 65-yard drive with 12:17 to go in the second quarter.
However, that's as good as the game would get for Arkansas, which surrendered 38 straight points to Mississippi State.
The Bulldogs ended the game with 505 yards of total offense, while the defense forced five Arkansas turnovers.
Box Score Hero: Bulldogs' junior running back LaDarius Perkins, who ran for 91 yards on 17 carries. Perkins also caught three balls for 40 yards and two touchdowns.
Rankings Ramifications: The victory may help the Bulldogs sneak back into the top 25, but a lot will need to go down for that to happen. It does ensure Mississippi State will finish SEC play above .500.
But Did They Cover? Mississippi State easily covered the five-point spread. The over/under of 55.5 points was also covered.
