Virginia Tech vs. Boston College 2012 results: Hokies defeat Eagles in overtime, 30-23

Logan Thomas completed a 7-yard touchdown pass to Randall Dunn in overtime in what proved to be the decisive score, as the Virginia Tech Hokies defeated the Boston College Eagles, 30-23.

The Virginia Tech Hokies (5-6, 3-4) needed overtime, but managed to escape Saturday with a win over the Boston College Eagles, 30-23.

Boston College took a 23-20 lead with just 4:11 left to go in the game, when David Dudeck capped off a six play, 64-yard drive with a 12-yard touchdown run.

Facing their seventh loss of the season, Frank Beamer's team didn't back down.

Cody Journell drilled a 41-yard field goal with 1:05 remaining, tying the game at 23-23, and forcing overtime.

Virginia Tech received the ball first in overtime, and scored a touchdown on their first possession when quarterback Logan Thomas hooked up with Randall Dunn for a 7-yard touchdown strike.

Virginia Tech's defense would handle the rest, forcing the Eagles to turn the ball over on downs, sealing the win for Virginia Tech.

Thomas finished the day 16 of 33 passing for 247 yards and two touchdown passes, and added a touchdown rush as well.

Though the Hokies needed overtime, Virginia Tech dominated the game in terms of total yards, out-gaining Boston College, 401-291. Virginia Tech converted just 8-of-21 third downs, while the Eagles converted just 3-of-16.

Box Score Hero: Marcus Davis caught five passes for 104 yards and a touchdown for Virginia Tech.

Rankings Ramifications: Neither team will factor into next week's rankings.

But Did They Cover? Virginia Tech entered the game as 10-point favorites, and failed to cover.
