Kevin Liles-US PRESSWIRE
It was a back and forth game all afternoon, but the Yellow Jackets were able to walk away with a 42-24 win over the Blue Devils.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets held off the Duke Blue Devils, 42-24, on Saturday, overcoming a very game effort from the Blue Devils. The game was within one score in either direction until Tevin Washington hit Robert Godhigh for an 8-yard touchdown pass with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Washington would connect with Godhigh again later in the quarter to make it 42-24, a scoreline that doesn't really illustrate how close the game was.
Tevin Washington and Vad Lee split quarterbacking duties for the Yellow Jackets again, with Washington clearly performing better. He threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another, while Lee rushed for a touchdown himself. Georgia Tech had seven different players rush for more than 10 yards, lead by Zack Laskey with 72. David Sims, Washington, and Lee all scored on the ground for the Yellow Jackets.
Sean Renfree played valiantly for Duke, but simply didn't have enough help to get the job done. He threw for 198 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another, but the Blue Devils could only muster 77 yards on the ground as a team. Desmond Scott led the team with 99 receiving yards and a touchdown, and Juwan Thompson caught a touchdown as well.
Box Score Hero: Tevin Washington had a really nice game for the Yellow Jackets, going 6-10 for 102 yards and three touchdowns in the air, and 62 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Rankings Ramifications: Neither team was ranked coming into this game, and neither team will be after.
But Did They Cover? Georgia Tech was a 12-point favorite coming into the game, and did not cover the spread.
