Morehead State head coach Sean Woods faces potential disciplinary action after excessively berating players twice in the span of 10 days. His outburst on Friday, which appeared to bring point guard Devon Atkinson to the verge of tears, has attracted national attention.
Morehead State head coach Sean Woods may face disciplinary action for excessively shouting at, and appearing to shove, Eagles point guard Devon Atkinson late in the second half of the team's loss to the Kentucky Wildcats on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.
Matt Segal, a spokesman for Morehead State's athletic department, said the incident is being reviewed, and that a resolution would be announced on Friday morning.
Woods, the Eagles' first-year coach, confronted Atkinson after the player fouled out with less than six minutes remaining in Morehead State's 81-70 loss. Visibly angry, Woods yelled in the face of Atkinson and pushed him in the back toward the Eagles' bench before continuing to shout at the senior guard once he was seated.
Wednesday's incident came just nine days after Woods berated junior center Chad Posthumus during Morehead State's 67-45 loss to the Maryland Terrapins.
