Georgia Tech vs. Georgia 2012 final score: Bulldogs blow out Yellow Jackets, 42-10

Scott Cunningham

The Georgia Bulldogs blew out their rivals, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 42-10, and got one step closer to a potential BCS Championship Game appearance.

The Georgia Bulldogs and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have traditionally played very close games against each other. This was not one of them, as the Bulldogs blew out the Yellow Jackets, 42-10.

Todd Gurley started the game quickly for the Bulldogs, scoring two touchdowns in the first 10 minutes to make it 14-0. Rhett McGowan and Keith Marshall each had a touchdown in the second quarter, stretching the lead to 28-3 at halftime. Bacarri Rambo forced two massive turnovers in the first half, killing two possessions that would have likely ended up with Georgia Tech scoring points. Two touchdowns in the third quarter put the game away for Georgia, who will now go on to the SEC Championship Game.

Georgia Tech was able to move the ball effectively at times, but really struggled converting those yards into points. Three turnovers hurt them in that regard, but they also turned the ball over on downs three times. David Sims led the Yellow Jackets with 71 yards rushing and had the team's only touchdown, and Zach Laskey, Robert Godhigh, and Vad Lee each had over 40 yards.

Aside from picking up the win, Georgia set a new school record for points scored in a season, and running backs Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall combined to break Herschel Walker's school record for most rushing yards by a freshman (they can do that, right?). He led the team with 97 yards rushing and two touchdowns today, and Marshall finished with 66 and two touchdowns.

Box Score Hero: Aaron Murray was an efficient 14-of-17 for 215 yards and two touchdowns. It may not be the flashiest line, but the UGA offense spread the wealth very evenly.

Rankings Ramifications: Unless either Notre Dame or Alabama loses, Georgia will stay at No. 3 in the BCS standings.

But Did They Cover? The Dawgs were 14.5-point favorites entering the game, so they covered easily.
