Michigan's play calling might need some work

Sooner or later you have to do something other than run up the middle on Nth and short.

Look, I get it. When it's 2nd and 1 or 3rd and 1, you like to run the ball. The first down is so close, you can almost reach out and touch it. It's tempting, tantalizing, enticing, seductive.

"Run me," the ball whispers. "You can do it. You know you want to."

Al Borges sure wants to. He loves it.

He loves it so much he tried it four different times -- on 3rd and short and 4th and short on the Wolverines' first drive of the second half and on 2nd and short and 3rd and short early in the fourth quarter -- to no success.

These are bad play calls. I know the Big Ten is three yards and a cloud of dust and everything, and I know I root for the Cleveland Browns and the ACC, so stone meet glass house, but if anyone has seen enough of running uninspired plays until their eyes bleed, it's me.

Listen to me, don't listen to the football. The football is a liar and a thief and it will try to leave you the first chance it gets.
