Notre Dame vs. USC score update: Irish on course, but Everett Golson cramping

Stay connected with SB Nation

Notre Dame leads USC, 16-10, at the break, with Everett Golson "cramping up" just before the end of the half. Head here for Notre Dame-USC score updates and discussion.

Notre Dame needs 30 more minutes of what it's just put together in order to assure itself of a spot in Miami, likely against the SEC Championship Game's winner. Quarterback Everett Golson has been fantastic, going 14 of 22 for 181 yards, avoiding pass rushers and scrambling for another 23, but he had to hit the bench just before halftime with what Brian Kelly described as cramps.

On the other side, fellow young quarterback Max Wittek has been spotty, showing off a huge arm but throwing a pick while underthrowing a streaking Marqise Lee. Notre Dame is controlling the ground game, with Theo Riddick, running for 67 and a tough touchdown, and USC's going to need more from its star receiving weapons (Lee and Robert Woods have combined for 54 yards) in the second.

And if Golson ends up being unable to go, well, Notre Dame's kind of got this Tommy Rees-as-closer thing going anyway.
