The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are getting set for a return to prominence. They beat the USC Trojans 22-13 in Los Angeles to wrap up their trip to the BCS National Championship in Miami. Here are the video highlights of Notre Dame's victory.
Notre Dame got some pretty good early offense thanks to the running of Theo Riddick and the efficient passing of Everett Golson. Two Golson completions and several Riddick rushes set up a Kyle Brindza 27 yard field goal on Notre Dame's first drive, and then Golson connected with Riddick, TJ Jones and Tyler Eifert several times to set up a Riddick nine yard rush and an early 10-0 Notre Dame lead.
Max Wittek would show some punch by completing all five of his passes to Marqise Lee and Robert Woods and cut the lead to 10-7 in the second quarter. Notre Dame responded with a long field goal drive worked by the Golson and Riddick connection. USC answered with a field goal of their own thanks to some nice rushing by Silas Redd, but a Wittek interception would lead to a Notre Dame field goal and a 16-10 Irish lead at halftime.
After a few uneventful drives, it was more Riddick and Golson, with the big play being a throw to Eifert that set up another Brindza field goal to put the Irish up two scores. USC would move the football towards the goal-line twice in the second half, but would manage only three points, kicking a field goal the first time and turning it over on downs the second time. Notre Dame would kick an insurance field goal to assure victory.
