The Colorado Buffaloes have fired second-year head coach Jon Embree, Bruce Feldman reports. Embree went just 4-21 during his two years at his alma mater, with his 2012 team ranking among the worst five schools in the country and ranking quite comfortably as the worst BCS-conference team.
Colorado fans are not happy:
Wow. Can not believe Embree has been fired. HATE this decision. At least there won't be a lot of open jobs this year, right?— RalphieReport (@RalphieReport) November 26, 2012
If there hasn't already been a lot of progress made with someone than this coaching search could look even worse than the last one did.— RalphieReport (@RalphieReport) November 26, 2012
Whether we agree or not, it's an understandable move. Two years is not a long time to fix a program that had fallen into disrepair under Dan Hawkins, but there have to be signs of progress. The Buffs' only competitive games all year came in a loss to a FCS team, a loss to a team that lost to a FCS team and a win against Washington State that's still confused everyone greatly. Not any way to impress new conference mates.
As for potential replacements:
#CUBuffs fans don't be surprised if CU goes after Air Force coach Troy Calhoun. AD Mike Bohn has approached Calhoun about the job previously— Kyle Ringo (@KyleRingo) November 26, 2012
With Jon Embree out as the Colorado head coach, don't be surprised if Fresno State's Tim DeRuyter is targeted. bit.ly/sbcB2K— Pete Roussel (@coachingsearch) November 26, 2012
Embree becomes the fifth coach to be fired on Sunday, joining Gene Chizik, Danny Hope, Frank Spaziani and Tom O'Brien. The complete list of coaching changes is being tracked right here.
