Pitt vs. Notre Dame halftime score: Panthers hold 10-6 lead

Charles LeClaire-US PRESSWIRE

Pittsburgh has Notre Dame on upset alert thanks to a strong first half by running back Ray Graham.

Naturally, after a win as big as the Fighting Irish's over Oklahoma in Norman last week, a bit of a bump was to expected against Pittsburgh. Pundits around the country all but proclaimed the Irish to be undefeated going into a circled date with Southern Cal on Nov. 24, and no matter how focused a team is, that noise gets to you. (Unless, you're Alabama and you've had your eardrums replaced with some other form of genetic matter.)

Ray Graham broke off a 55-yard run for the Panthers, surprising the fans in South Bend early. The Fighting Irish defense is so stout and consistent that seeing a big play like that on home turf may have startled Brian Kelly's team a bit. Tommy Rees got some burn, going 3 of 5 for 24 yards, but Irish big-play threats Cierre Wood and Tyler Eifert only have 67 yards between them.

So as much of a surprise as it is to see Pitt leading ND, 10-6, at the half, it's really no surprise at all. The Fighting Irish have been trailing at the break in three of their last four games, and they're one play away from retaking the lead, with a 2:1 advantage in time of possession. But if they're not careful, the upset bug could strike (it's that time of the season, dress warmly, folks).
