A.J. McCarron did not have a good night in general, managing under 100 yards passing through much of the game. In the final drive of the game for Alabama, McCarron put it together. He found Kevin Norwood for 18, 15 and 11 yards, then connected with T.J. Yeldon on a 28 yard screen that Yeldon took to the end zone and gave Alabama the lead with just over a minute left.
McCarron's comeback ruined what had otherwise been a strong performance for the LSU offense. The Tigers piled up pver 400 tyards of total offense, and Zach Mettenberger completed over 68% of his passes while piling up nearly 300 yards through the air. Mettenberger found Jarvis Landry, Odell Beckham and J.C. Copeland for some critical throws, including a 14 yard catch-and-go touchdown to Landry to give LSU a 17-14 lead early in the 4th quarter. Jeremy Hill rushed for over 100 yards and a touchdown as part of LSU's comeback from being down 14-3 in the second half.
But Alabama rallied, and kept their number one ranking alive as they stayed on course for Miami.
