First 2012 college bowl game bid in: Navy to Kraft Fight Hunger

Mike Carter-US PRESSWIRE

Navy took the first bowl bid of the college football season on Sunday.

The Navy MIdshipmen wasted no time becoming the first team of the 2012-13 college football season to accept a bowl bid, as they'll be headed to the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl in San Francisco, according to Lindsay Schnell.

Navy only became eligible for a bowl on Saturday, when it toppled the Florida Atlantic Owls, 24-17. The season started for the Midshipmen looking like it was going to be another wasted year. Navy went 1-3 in its first four games.

However, the team has really turned it around lately, winning five consecutive contests, including wins over the Air Force Falcons and the Big Ten's Indiana Hoosiers.

Gee Gee Greene has been the catalyst for Navy this year, rushing for over seven yards per carry on what's mainly a running offense. All told, the South Carolina native has 529 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Next weekend, the Midshipmen will take on the Troy Trojans at Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium.
