Ball State vs. Toledo 2012 final score: Cardinals down Rockets in final minutes, 34-27

Ball State got a late touchdown to hand Toledo its first loss in the MAC on Tuesday night.

The Ball State Cardinals scored late to knock off the No. 25 Toledo Rockets, 34-27, in a Mid-American Conference shootout on Tuesday night.

Jahwan Edwards raced in for a 15-yard touchdown rush with under two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, capping an 11-play, 86-yard drive to give the Cardinals (7-3, 4-2 in the MAC) the decisive 34-27 lead.

Edwards, the sophomore running back, rushed for 105 yards on 16 carries as Ball State (8-2, 5-1 MAC) piled up 447 total yards of offense. The Cardinals built a 14-0 lead in the first quarter before the Rockets came storming back, eventually tying the score at 17.

Toledo put up 526 total offensive yards of its own, as junior running back David Fluellen tallied 200 rushing yards and a touchdown on 34 carries.

After falling behind, 27-24, for the first time in the game early in the fourth quarter following Fluellen's touchdown run, the Cardinals responded by tying the game on a 30-yard field goal by Steven Schott.

Despite throwing three interceptions, Ball State quarterback Keith Wenning also threw for three touchdowns and 281 yards.
