Florida State-Virginia Tech in a GIF

A flurry of late-half offense has Florida State up, 13-10, on Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, but the old 6-3 score was a much more accurate depiction of what we're witnessing here. E.J. Manuel and Logan Thomas have combined to complete half of their 34 passes, with an interception apiece, and that's counting a nice drive by Manuel with some great over-the-shoulder tosses.

This is an ugly game, likely not as ugly as that Jaguars thing also going on, but everyone involved would really rather be watching ULM-Arkansas State.

My favorite stat: Florida State has -8 yards rushing. There really aren't any other stats. Somehow this game produced no numbers, which is a strange thing to have happen at an engineering school's campus. It's a game that can only be described via images.

Basically, there's been a lot of this going on:

ASU running over ULM

Thursday night's battle for headway in the very crowded top of the Sun Belt standings has Arkansas State leading UL Monroe, 17-10, at halftime. The winner will have an uncontested lead (for the moment) in perhaps the most competitive conference in college football -- half the SBC entered the week with three losses.

Both quarterbacks have been solid, with Ryan Aplin and Cody Wells combining for 179 yards and two touchdowns. Aplin did throw his first pick in 194 attempts, killing a drive at the end of the half that would've given the Red Wolves a two-score lead.

Among the differences has been ASU's ground game. David Oku has 70 yards already, part of a 115-yard effort overall.

The Warhawks trail, but this isn't the first time this year they've faced a second half deficit against an Arkansas school. I'm talking about that Razorbacks game, you see.
