The teams combined for nearly 1,000 yards of offense in Arkansas State's 45-23 win over ULM Thursday.
The Arkansas State Red Wolves (7-3) scored 21 points in the third quarter to propel themselves to a 45-23 win over the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks (6-4) Thursday.
ULM tied the game at 17 on a touchdown pass from Cody Wells to Rashon Ceasar less than two minutes into the third quarter, but Arkansas State responded with three straight scores to go up 38-17. Ryan Aplin threw a 70-yard touchdown pass to Taylor Stockemer and David Oku scored two of his three rushing touchdowns in the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, ULM cut the lead to 38-23 on a touchdown by Monterrell Washington with 6:22 left, but Oku scored his third touchdown of the night to provide the final margin.
Washington scored the game's first touchdown on a 27-yard reception from Wells. Aplin threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Julian Jones and also rushed for a 38-yard score in the first half.
Wells finished 37-for-53 for 357 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Washington rushed for 61 yards and had 46 receiving yards with two touchdowns.
Box Score Heroes: Both Aplin and Oku were dominant. Aplin was 26 for 34 for 334 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He also had 44 rushing yards and a touchdown. Oku had 132 yards on 22 carries and three touchdowns.
Rankings Ramifications: Neither team is ranked, and this result won't change that for either team.
But Did They Cover? Arkansas State was favored by 1½ points, so the Red Wolves more than covered.
