The Alabama running backs are putting the team on their, well, backs.
In the first half Eddie Lacy didn't get enough carries. He made the most of the ones he had, including a 41-yard touchdown, but it was clear Alabama was relying too much on A.J. McCarron and not enough on running the ball behind an elite offensive line.
Late in the third quarter against Georgia, the Crimson Tide finally followed the script.
Eddie Lacy had three straight runs for first downs, compiling a combined 61 yards, with Alabama trailing Georgia 21-18. He had 17 rushes for 180 yards through three quarters, complemented by T.J. Yeldon's 104 yards on 6.5 yards per carry. Then Lacy finished the drive with a 1-yard touchdown, putting Bama up 25-21 one play into the fourth quarter.
Alabama is finally running the ball with regularity -- and it's working. Imagine that. Bama has 298 rushing yards, almost an average of 100 yards a quarter, but Georgia's big plays have the Bulldogs holding on for dear life.
