It wasn't pretty, but Florida State held off Georgia Tech 21-15 to win the ACC title and clinch a berth in the Orange Bowl.
For long stretches of the ACC Championship Game, the Florida State Seminoles looked like the vastly superior team. However, they could never put away the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, and had to hang on for a 21-15 win that sends Florida State to the Orange Bowl.
It looked like the Seminoles were going to blow out the Yellow Jackets in the first half, as they jumped out to a 14-0 lead, and took a 21-6 lead into halftime. However, things slowed down dramatically in the second half, and Georgia Tech was able to slowly crawl back into the game. They made it a one-score game when Tevin Washington punched it into the end zone from one yard out. E.J. Manuel floated an interception on the next drive to give Georgia Tech the ball with just over two minutes remaining, but Washington threw an interception of his own with just over a minute remaining to ice the win for Florida State.
Manuel went 15-20 for 132 yards and an interception, and also led the team with 65 rushing yards. Devonta Freeman rushed for 59 yards and a touchdown, and Rashad Greene had 80 receiving yards.
Washington was 4-14 for 76 yards and an interception, and rushed for 21 yards. David Sims led the Yellow Jackets with 91 yards, and Robert Godhigh ran for 33 yards.
Box Score Hero: There weren't many stars in this game, but James Wilder Jr. scored two touchdowns and rushed for 55 yards for the Noles.
Rankings Ramifications: Florida State was ranked 13th in the BCS standings before the game, but clinched the ACC's automatic berth with the win. Georgia Tech was not ranked.
But Did They Cover? The Seminoles were 15.5-point favorites, so they did not cover the spread.
