The undefeated No. 3 Morningside Mustangs, from Sioux City, Iowa, will meet the No. 5 Marian Knights, out of Indianapolis, Ind., in the NAIA football national championship game on Thursday night.
At 11-1, the Knights suffered their only loss against Saint Xavier (out of Illinois) in early November, falling 23-6 on the road. Meanwhile, the Mustangs have largely breezed by opponents this season, though some of their closest contests have come in the NAIA playoffs. On Nov. 17, they defeated Montana Tech, 40-35, and followed that up with a 47-44 overtime win over Southern Oregon the following week on Nov. 24. On Dec. 1, however, Morningside returned to its blowout ways, shelling Saint Xavier, 47-19, to reach the national title game.
Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised on the CBS Sports Network. Also the contest will be held in Barron Stadium in Rome, Ga.
