Both Bowling Green and San Jose State will be making their first appearance in the Military Bowl.
The No. 24 San Jose St. Spartans will be making the cross country trek to Washington D.C. with a new head coach. After Mike MacIntyre was hired by the Colorado Buffaloes to be their new head coach, Ron Caragher will guide the Spartans in the Military Bowl against the Bowling Green Falcons.
The Spartans ended the season 10-2 with losses to the Rose Bowl-bound Stanford Cardinal and the Utah St. Aggies. The Falcons, who finished the year 8-4, will have to slow down the Spartans' passing attack, which ranks 11th in the country at just over 327 yards per game.
Bowling Green is perfectly capable of doing just that, though. They don't score a lot of points but the Falcons rank ninth in the FBS in points against, allowing their opponents to score an average of just 15.8 points per contest.
The teams do have one common opponent, the Idaho Vandals. Bowling Green defeated Idaho 21-13 while San Jose State smashed the Vandals 42-13.
