Syracuse and West Virginia will meet on Dec. 29 in New York's Yankee Stadium in the 2012 New Era Pinstripe Bowl.
Syracuse (7-5, 5-2) started the season with two straight losses but rebounded nicely, finishing the season with three straight wins as they head into bowl season. The Orange own the 21st-ranked passing offense in the nation, led by quarterback Ryan Nassib, who averages more than 301 yards per game. Nassib has a passed for a total of 3,619 yards, 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions this season.
West Virginia (7-5, 4-5) followed a much different course this season. The Mountaineers came out of the gate hot, winning their first five contests including victories against then-No. 25 Baylor and then-No. 11 Texas. However, their season hit a rough patch following the 5-0 start, as they lost their next five games. WVU finished the season 7-5 after ending the season with consecutive victories.
West Virginia averages more than 41 points per game, ranking them as the seventh-best offense in the country. Quarterback and top NFL prospect Geno Smith leads the Mountaineers offense. He threw for 4,004 yards, 40 touchdowns and only six interceptions this season.
The Pinstripe Bowl, which typically pits the fourth-place team from the Big East against the seventh-place team from the Big 12, has been played since 2010.
