Jace Amaro punch during Meineke Car Care Bowl costs Texas Tech

One poor decision could end up costing Texas Tech the game.

In a Meineke Car Care Bowl game that was already feeling a little bit chippy, Texas Tech sophomore Jace Amaro let his frustrations get the best of him when he punched Gophers defensive back Derrick Wells.

Right in front of an official.

Predictably, he was ejected from the game. He may also have cost his team the lead.

The Red Raiders appeared to score on the play — a touchdown later overturned upon review, when the ball was ruled out of bounds about a half yard from the end zone. While Texas Tech was trying to punch it into the end zone though, Amaro let his frustrations get the best of him after getting tied up with Wells.

With 15 yards tacked on for the personal foul, Texas Tech was forced to go much further to get the touchdown. After that failed -- and an additional false start penalty was assessed -- the Red Raiders settled for a field goal attempt.

Ryan Bustin's 38-yarder was blocked.

Eight plays later, Minnesota scored, making for a possible 10-point turnaround or more.

Minnesota leads Texas Tech, 31-24, in the fourth quarter.
