Chase Hammond injury: Wisconsin receiver takes brutal shot after airball

The Rose Bowl has turned from a hard-hitting rushing contest to a hard-hitting defensive battle. And we do mean hard-hitting.

It might be years before we see a hit more insane than this one by Jadeveon Clowney, but Jordan Richards' blasting of Wisconsin's Chase Hammond certainly comes close.

It's a totally clean hit, and the result of a horrible pass by Curt Phillips. Shoulder to midsection, no ducked helmet, feet on the ground still driving. There's no word yet on Hammond's condition, but he was shown by ESPN's cameras wincing in pain on the sideline after being helped off the field.

Stanford's defense is known as one of the country's most physical, and putting this kind of air under a pass with a dangerous strong safety in the area is a mistake that can't be made again in this game.
